Peratera is a UK-based fintech company, founded in 2022 and authorised by the FCA as an Electronic Money Institution. We are building a modern, all-in-one payment platform that enables businesses to manage global payments and financial operations seamlessly.

Our solution allows companies to open multi-currency accounts, send and receive payments worldwide, and manage cross-border transactions from a single platform. Our mission is to simplify global finance and remove friction from international business operations.

Your mission

As a Middle Java Engineer, you will be part of the team building and evolving the core services behind our financial platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you will have the opportunity to contribute to technical decisions, improve existing solutions, and help shape the future of product.

Your Tech Environment

You will work in a modern, cloud-native stack with clear ownership and no legacy surprises:

• Backend: Java 17+, Spring Boot (Core, Security, Data, Cloud), REST APIs, event-driven services, Camunda
• Infrastructure: AWS (EKS, RDS, CloudWatch), Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD
• Data & Messaging: PostgreSQL, AMQP / Kafka-style message brokers, event-driven architecture
• Observability: OpenSearch / ELK, Prometheus / Micrometer, OpenTelemetry (in progress)
• Integrations: Open Banking providers, banking partners, external payment systems

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain core platform services, including payment flows, transaction lifecycle, reconciliation, and wallet infrastructure
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical solutions aligned with the overall platform direction
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following established engineering standards
• Collaborate with other engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical discussions
• Translate business and technical requirements into reliable and scalable backend solutions
• Work closely with Product and DevOps teams to deliver financial features end-to-end
• Contribute to the platform’s evolution toward AI-assisted and data-driven capabilities
• Help improve platform reliability, fault tolerance, observability, and performance at scale

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of commercial experience with Java in production environments
• Hands-on experience with the Spring Boot ecosystem and backend application developmentDeep expertise in the Spring Boot ecosystem and distributed systems at scale
• Experience working with distributed systems and developing scalable backend services
• Experience building or supporting financial products, such as payments, wallets, banking, or fintech solutions
• Good understanding of software engineering practices, including clean code, testing, and code reviews
• Strong experience with REST API development and messaging systems
• Comfortable working in a distributed, international team and collaborating asynchronously
• Familiarity with cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling

Nice to Have

• Previous experience in fintech, banking, payments, EMI, or other regulated financial environments
• Familiarity with payment-related compliance requirements, including PCI DSS
• Exposure to Open Banking providers or integrations with payment schemes
• Experience with Camunda or other workflow orchestration tools
